Motrex LLC Lab Supervisor in Niagara Falls, New York


Stryten Energy (formerly Richardson Molding) a new company name with a long history in the Columbus, IN area, manufactures proprietary and custom injection molding products serving the industrial lead battery, automotive and consumer markets. Stryten Energy is expanding battery poly manufacturing and recycling output to help solve industry-wide supply constraints.

Individual will work closely with Quality Manager in the testing and evaluation of polypropylene for recycling and reprocessing. Conducts testing and certification standards on raw materials and finished goods. Individual will also provide leadership in the day-to-day activities for all Quality Coordinators within the facility and partner with the Engineering community to solve problems and improve quality. Manage and organize coverage for all vacations and call offs so all control plan activities are completed daily. This individual should have a thorough working knowledge of ISO9001/14001 Quality System Requirements, OEM expectations, and the Quality Operating System of manufacturing and distribution.

This role is eligible for Premium Pay. All hours worked over 45 in a week is paid at time and a half.


  • Conduct physical and thermal testing on plastic raw material and finished products.

  • Gather information for compounding certification purposes.

  • Assists on projects involving color matching and additives evaluation along with other material related projects.

  • Perform testing and record results using plastic testing equipment.

  • Pull samples from purchased gaylords of regrinds and log in system.

  • Process sample parts made from purchased resins to ensure critical properties meet specifications.

  • Alerts Quality Manager when product is found out of spec.

  • Provide day to day quality direction and support to manufacturing and quality assurance in the form of plans, procedures, and guidance.

  • Schedule / cover overtime, absenteeism and vacations of all floor auditors and lab technicians.

  • Be available to work flexible shifts to ensure supervision and support is available.

  • Manage teardown analysis of all internal failures and communicate to the rest of the staff on trends.

  • Monitor operator and quality control plan compliance daily.

  • Document Control

  • Internal Audit Management

  • Responsible for Hold Tag management – reporting of status and monitoring that product is dispositioned within the guidelines of Exide procedures.

  • Work with the team on problem solving initiatives and link actions and outcomes to Control Plans, PFMEA’s, plant inspection points, and Customer returns.

  • Manage and communicate any changes or replacement of work instructions.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Work within established policies, procedures, practices, and regulations.


  • Coaching and developing employees for future opportunity and to assure accountability and adherence to established policies and procedures.


Education, Experience, Certifications:

  • Minimum of 2 year degree in business, science, engineering or quality.

  • 5-8 years related experience as a quality assurance technician / auditor in a manufacturing plant level, preferably a tier I supplier to the automotive industry.

  • Six Sigma training (Green Belt or Black Belt) preferred.

Competencies, Skills, Knowledge:

  • Demonstrate leadership skills

  • Proficient in problem solving – root cause analysis, 5 why, etc.

  • Must be quality and customer oriented

  • Knowledgeable in ISO 9001/14001 quality standards; APQP methodology; Control Plans, FMEAs, and PPAPs

  • Knowledgeable in Six-Sigma and Lean tools

  • Familiarity with Quality Operating Systems

  • Must be able to work independently and in a team-oriented environment on multiple projects

  • Strong skills in statistical methods

  • Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong computer skills -Windows-based programs


  • Travel Expectations: ≤ 10%
