Motrex LLC CAD Designer in Kansas City, Kansas


The MP Product CAD Designer position is a motivated technical team member that has responsibilities to support the MP Product Engineering team. This position will have primary responsibility for generating product and component drawings related to custom tray orders, product component updates (grids, container/cover, etc), supplied components and miscellaneous tooling requests. These CAD responsibilities also include managing and maintaining the drawing database and related CAD file conversions. A key emphasis for this position is supporting custom battery ordering which includes custom tray design as well as compiling the full battery BOM with cells and accessories that meet the requested specifications. This position will also have a secondary role to support the plant with vendor improvements including tray support and other drawings related to BOMs and accessories. EWR help and product teardown analysis support may be needed as well. This position will be located at the KC MP plant facility and report to the MP Product Engineering Manager. CAD project scope includes minor modifications/updates to existing drawings as well as full design work on new parts/drawings. Custom battery design includes tray design, component selection, BOM generation and Engineering Change Order completion. This team member will interface with a broad range of internal team members and other departments (Operations, Engineering, Sales/Marketing, Quality, etc). Externally, this position will interface directly with customers, agents, field service people as well as component suppliers (trays and accessories). This person must have excellent communication skills, provide timely and thorough follow-up and have a strong customer satisfaction focused attitude.

  • Translate preliminary product design concepts into working CAD documents – 2D and 3D

  • Review drawings and designs to ensure adherence to internal and external specifications and standards

  • Work with internal and external sales/agents, internal plant departments and supplier on custom designs for battery trays

  • Assist in the quote process for new batteries/trays to meet customer specs and demands

  • Visit customer field sites to initiate, monitor and terminate test studies

  • Generate Excel spreadsheets using data gathered from testing

  • Assist with plant builds and trials

  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain a clean and orderly work area

  • Ensure all product development, customer support and launch activity is conducted in accordance with applicable Quality System requirements and Stryten policies and procedures

Education & Experience

  • This position is entry level, to early career. High School Graduate Required and preferred 2 Year Technical Degree

  • Minimum of 2 Year direct experience use and demonstrated command of CAD software (2010 version or later w/ Inventor)

  • Ability to read technical drawings and documents/specifications

  • Strong basic math skills to complete basic algebraic and geometric problems and calculations

  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook

  • Experience working with shop tools and electrical testing devices (digital meters, hydrometers, etc)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for complex tasksSoftware Skills

  • AutoCAD

  • MS Office suite required including Excel data analysis and Word and PowerPoint document generation

  • Must have attention to detail
