Process Engineers are focused on helping the company achieve its mission – to be the quality leader in the market. The plant Process Engineer is responsible for the development, maintenance, support, and performance of manufacturing processes in coordination with Engineering and R&D as necessary. In this role, you will work to improve product manufacturability, reliability, and cost through continuous improvement of the battery manufacturing processes. This individual will be knowledgeable in the chemical, mechanical, and electrical processes as they relate to Lead-acid batteries.
Responsibilities
Ensure a safe working environment.
Develop and maintain processes that achieve required quality, throughput, and cost targets.
Update and develop process specifications to match current best practices.
Support introduction of new products and processes.
Provide guidance to plant personnel for process equipment installation, training, and operation.
Provide troubleshooting and problem solving assistance to the plant.
Implement Lean Manufacturing principles into the manufacturing process.
Generate ideas leading to cost reduction, process improvements, and scrap reduction.
Analyze and interpret data, prepare and present technical reports, make recommendations on subsequent actions.
This position will have responsibility for both Li+-ion battery assembly and support of the lead-acid battery manufacturing processes.
Qualifications
BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, other disciplines considered based on experience.
0-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
Knowledge of battery chemistry and manufacturing is desirable.
Ability to work with people in a team environment.
Self-starter, able to execute agreed actions independently.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Minitab, etc.
Strong problem solving and organizational skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Lean 6-sigma and SPC experience a plus.
Work Environment
You must be able to work inside or outside the plant environment. Exposure to lead, acid, fumes, noise, chemicals, heat or cold, and other industrial hazards is possible. PPE and training to work safely around such hazards is provided.
Travel may be occasionally required for Training, assistance to other plants, or other company business.
