Overview
The BMS Tester (Battery Management Systems) is responsible for designing and executing various test plans to determine and verify performance of lithium battery products for Industrial Motive Power and/or Stationary applications. Areas of activities include test plan design and test plan execution. Product being tested may be an electronic battery management system, small energy lithium cells, larger lithium packs containing multiple cells, or larger lithium systems containing multiple packs.
This is a contract position located in Charlottesville VA and requires you to be onsite.
Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty under the guidance of the appropriate supervisor and/or independently. Essential duties include the following; other duties may be assigned.
Design product test plans to verify products meet requirements of customer and/or Engineering specifications. Scope includes thermal testing, vibration testing, shock testing, environmental testing, electrical testing and mechanical structural testing.
Actually perform said tests utilizing internal test equipment. If needed, engage outside test companies and co-ordinate test performance and management of resulting data from testing.
Review test data results and interpret said data with respect to performance against product specifications. If test does not meet expected results, make specific recommendations for product improvement.
Facilitate the use of automated test methods to optimize test speed and minimize delay in securing test results.
Prepare recommendations for continuous test capability improvements regarding test machinery and test methods.
Acquire and maintain a library of applicable test standards for lithium products as subject matter expert.Make oral and written presentations (i.e. test results and associated implications)
Contribute to product related problem solving activities
Manage product testing activities which require strong cross functional engagement. Facilitate team building.
Qualifications
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical, Materials Science or equivalent technical field. Prefer minimum 3 years of experience in testing lab or similar product evaluation in an industrial environment
Experience with CAN communication
Good understanding of fundamental product testing concepts and experience with using test equipment and fixtures
Must be comfortable with hands-on working environment in test lab setting for lithium battery products
Lithium battery experience preferred
Competencies, Skills, Knowledge:
Reasoning Skills:
Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Language Skills:
Ability to write detailed technical reports concerning assigned projects
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good record keeping and documentation skills.
Ability to speak effectively before groups, and to communicate professionally with colleagues and managers.
PC Software Knowledge:
Computer applications knowledge in Windows environment with MS Office experience plus familiarity with operating within Google Suite.
Competence in lab data collection systems preferred (MATLAB or other)
Familiarity with Linux command line environments
Familiarity with CANalyzer
Familiarity with Testlink preferred
Physical Demands:
Hearing, speaking, seeing, writing, standing, lifting (50 lbs.), sitting, bending, walking, and carrying
Work Environment:
Normal office and test lab environment is typical.
Travel, other requirements:
Minimal domestic travel within the US
No international travel expected
